I see Robert Powell

I’ve always had a problem with Easter. Not as a festival and not because of what it represents – quite the reverse. I see the nails, the stripped flesh, the pain, the tears. I see Holy Week as a physical thing – primarily, the total destruction of the body of Jesus Christ. I wish I could see it symbolically. It would be so much easier to bear.

Creationism Dispute?

The Columbus Dispatch this week posted a news article that has many Christians riled, but have they considered all of the facts?
        Creationism dispute

Science teacher's hearing to be Aug. 26
  Tuesday, July 8, 2008 3:14 AM
By Alayna DeMartini
  THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- The Mount Vernon eighth-grade science teacher who
has been under scrutiny for focusing on creationism and intelligent
design in his classes will contest his planned firing at an Aug. 26
hearing.

The date was announced last night during a school board meeting in
which several supporters for John Freshwater publicly chastised the
school board for its plans to fire him.

Darcy Miller, whose son was taught by Freshwater, derided school
administrators for singling out Freshwater when she said other teachers
freely offer their opinions in the classroom.

"They (the administration) dug up any dirt they could that would put
John Freshwater in the light of being a zealot shoving Christianity
down the throats of his students," Miller said.

So far, it sounds like something that should alarm Christians everywhere, correct?

Before you comment or react, consider the rest of the story.

The Big Dirt Nap

Death is the end of life of a biological organism, or so says Wikipedia. But is death more than that? I think so.
For thousands of years, people have wondered what happens to a
person the split second after he or she dies and I often wonder the
same thing for personal reasons.
For some, this message may create more questions than answers, so if
you are looking for a clear answers, they might not be here. Then
again, after reading this, you might rule out certain things you’ve
been taught, so in that respect, this message may bring you closer to
the truth.
I mean no disrespect for anyone’s beliefs. I’m just putting my mind on paper, so to speak.
I know the scripture that says to be absent from the body is to be
present with the Lord. I know the one that says it is appointed unto
men once to die, but after this is the judgment, but things get begin
to get fuzzy when I read in the twentieth chapter of Revelation where
it says all those in hell will be cast into the lake of fire. There is
some place worse than hell? The next two chapters describe a new heaven
and a new earth.

Will Your Pastor Participate?

Already reaping the huge financial benefits of being a pastor of a non-profit 501c3 church, will your pastor someday do the bidding of the government?

The day may come when the government will ask your pastor to return the favor and saying no will not be an option.

If your pastor has sold out to the government, ask him why and call upon him to be accountable for his actions.

Prepare for the Bread Lines

When
Herbert Hoover took office, the economy was booming and times were
good. During his four year term, household income fell 35% and
unemployment rose to 25%. The Great Depression began after his first
year in office, and despite efforts to implement volunteer efforts and
government action, he was unable to end the economy's downward spiral.
He lacked charisma in relating to voters and had poor skills in working
with politicians.
Sound familiar?
George Bush's approval ratings hover between 25-28%. Jimmy Carter's
popularity dipped to 28% in 1979 and Richard Nixon and Harry Truman
suffered ratings in the low-to-mid 20% in the last years of their
administrations. The difference between the other president's low
ratings and that of George Bush, GW's are accompanied by a severe
downturn in the economy. No matter what he says from the podium or what
Bernanke of the Federal Reserve Bank says, people are worse off now
that they were eight years ago.
Today, I make less than one fifth what I used to make, my bills have more than doubled and my current job is instable.

I know I am not alone.

World Hunger - Who Is To Blame?

By JOSH GERSTEIN, Staff Reporter of the Sun
  April 21, 2008

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Many parts of America,
long considered the breadbasket of the world, are now confronting a
once unthinkable phenomenon: food rationing. Major retailers in New
York, in areas of New England,
and on the West Coast are limiting purchases of flour, rice, and
cooking oil as demand outstrips supply. There are also anecdotal
reports that some consumers are hoarding grain stocks.addthis_pub  = 'nysun';
At a Costco Warehouse in Mountain View, Calif.,
yesterday, shoppers grew frustrated and occasionally uttered expletives
as they searched in vain for the large sacks of rice they usually buy.
Food prices are soaring. Millions of people around the world are starving. Who is to blame?

The answer to that question may surprise you.

Overcome With Reality

Quote::

	Luke 12:54-56
12:54 Jesus also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A rainstorm is coming,’ and it does.
12:55 And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat,’ and there is.
12:56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how can you not know how to interpret the present time?

People think they are pretty smart. Everyone does. They believe that their own logic is infallible. They believe they have a grip on their surroundings and are able to second guess the majority of troubles that come their way. It's a survival mechanism that we all have, or at least...well, we believe we have it.

When we don't have enough information to plan for the near future, we look to experts who also believe their logic is infallible. That's where we run into trouble, because people are not as smart as they think they are. Perhaps you are feeling the pain and embarrassment of misplaced faith.

Your First Reaction

Quote::

OCEANO, California (AP) -- A homeless woman has died of suffocation after being buried by three men on a California beach -- a fate her family described as her greatest fear.

Three men were being held on involuntary manslaughter charges in the death Wednesday of 53-year-old Patricia Ann Kalbskopf.

They allegedly poured sand over her while she was passed out drunk at some dunes along the state's central coast.

Investigators say they don't believe the men, who were also drinking, intended to kill Kalbskopf, but their actions resulted in her death.

Kalbskopf's niece, Lisa Cruz, said her aunt's fear of burial was so acute she made the family promise to cremate her after her death. The family plans to honor the request.

Whatever Happened to SARS?

Do you remember SARS? Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome struck between November 2002 and July 2003, with 8,096 known infected cases and 774 deaths. Paranoid schizophrenics posted all over the Internet, stating that the pandemic would fill hospitals to capacity. There would be bodies lying in the streets, food shortages, lack of emergency services and ultimately, Marshall Law. Then came the news of Avian Flu. Were you one of those who raided the grocery stores, bought guns and ammunition and N95 face masks?

Will SARS or the bird flu get us? Probably. We'll also be destroyed by hurricanes, earthquakes, super bugs, global warming and we'll become slaves to the New World Order.
