The RF Modulator of Christmas Past, Present, and Future by Geoff Clarke

“I needed something else, something that would serve as the bridge between two separate things.”

By nature, I am a techno-geek and happily proud of it. Grant will testify to this, as he is one too. Many are the happy hours we have whiled away wandering through the hallowed aisles in some of our favourite commercial haunts. Some people like to browse through clothing stores, some people like to gaze adoringly at racks of shoes. I enjoy bright, shiny technology stores.

This brings me to my quest for a potential DVD player. Christmas wouldn't be Christmas if I didn't go out and look for things that no one will buy me (this, as Grant can easily tell, is a hint) and this year, it's the DVD player. And I have had an epiphany regarding this device. It's too new for my TV set.

My TV doesn't have the little RCA connectors in the back marked audio/video in. Consequently even if someone did give me a DVD player (hint hint hint) for Christmas it would be useless.

Unless of course, I had a RF Modulator!

Now this is not the device that Marvin the Martian was so proud of, it is in fact a device that many of us have used and not even realized we were using it. Most commonly this device connects video games or computers to regular TV sets. They were found on the old Atari games and so forth. It takes a signal and converts it (actually it modulates it, thus the name) to a useable signal for the older TV models.

Herein lies the application. I could get a DVD player, but I couldn't actually connect it to my TV. I needed something else, something that would serve as the bridge between two separate things. Jesus is just like that.

The Christmas gift of Jesus gives us a way to be compatible with God. Jesus bridges the gap of sin that lies between God and us, and makes us usable to God. What a great gift! It doesn't matter what you've done in the past, it doesn't matter what you are doing right now, and it doesn't matter what you are going to do in the future. Jesus will make it right.

I may not get a DVD player for Christmas, and I guess that's okay. But I have already got Jesus, and He is the best gift of all!

Merry Christmas!

My buddy Geoff serves with the Hammond Plains Christian Church in Nova Scotia, Canada.
