“Bunnies, however, get names like "Mr. Flop-ears", or perhaps "Snuggle Wumpkins".”
Have you ever noticed the names that people give to bunny rabbits? People don't name bunnies in any normal fashion. Dogs get called "Spot" because they have a rather obvious skin condition. Cats get dignified names like "Slayer of small furred creatures" and "Hacker-up of Hairballs of incredible proportions" (Translated from Cat- Original is Mreeeoooooow).
Bunnies, however, get names like "Mr. Flop-ears", or perhaps "Snuggle Wumpkins". This is not a builder of personal esteem. This is not a dignified moniker that they can hold their heads up high about. No, this is something that causes them to hop dejectedly home at the end of a hard day eating carrot greens. No wonder Bugs Bunny has anger issues!
Names are important. Names often define who we are and what we do. "Joe the Garbage Collector" (Sanitation Engineer) gives us a definite mental image. "Officer Bob" gives us another. Names have always been important in human society (less so in rabbit society but really, what can you expect with names like "Mr. Flop-ears") and as proof of this look in a book store or online for books on names. We define names. Most of them were originally descriptive of a job or task. My own name is Geoffrey Clarke (I am not mentioning the middle ones so don't even bother asking). Geoffrey is an old English name which means "Man of God". Clarke was the clerk - also from England - the guy who could read and often did the book keeping, you know, the educated guy. That makes me an educated man of God. I say this here because I always wanted to see it in print. But I digress (again).
What we call "Easter" or "Resurrection Sunday" is caused by someone with a Name. Jesus has many names, all of them important, all of them explaining some facet of His being.
Here is a partial list:
Whatever you call Him, He is "God with Us". Easter is when God came to die for us. "Jehovah Jireh" - God provides! We needed a sacrifice for our sins, God provided. The forgiveness of our sins came at a price we couldn't afford-God "named" that price in Christ. The names that he is given are ones that show God's Glory. They are names that are set above the normal. They are extra-ordinary and show the majesty of Jesus. God has given these names for another purpose as well. He did it so that you could take on His family name. What are you going to do about it?
