“Sometimes I feel hopeless, helpless and terrible.”
Do you thrash about like a trout on a hook? Do you reach for what you cannot grasp, and scream at the receding image of life? Is there a gnawing hunger in you, a feeling of missing-ness or absence?
A group of men followed a man. He was the Greatest Teacher they had ever met. He was a man Who cared for everyone, who judged, not by your clothing or the size of your purse, but by what you did for those around you, and taught that the Supreme King of all creation loved you and would care for you.
Their bitter enemies came one day. They came and they took this Teacher, who had also been their friend, they took Him and they beat Him and mocked Him. They made fun of Him alone and in front of His people. Then they took Him and they killed Him.
It was a terrible death. He hung there in the sky, blood dripping, sweat pouring, face lifted to Question God! And then He died.
This is how those men felt. They had loved Him, they had followed Him. Now He was gone, and they were alone. They were alone with their enemies. They were alone with the people who had claimed the Teacher for their own, and then rejected Him. They were alone with their fears and nightmares and failure.
Do you feel this way?
A lot of people do. A lot of people whom you might meet every day while walking to school or headed to work or to the shops feel just this way. They have a haunted, hopeless expression, stooped shoulders, a stumble in their aimless walk.
Sometime I feel this way.
A few days later, a woman came running to them. It was even worse! The body had been stolen, it was gone! It couldn't be as she said that He was alive. That just doesn't happen in real life.
Does it?
Yes.
It does.
He came back. He brought with him all the hope of Heaven, all the power of a Loving God and all the grace and forgiveness that Blood can buy.
He came to set the trout free of the hook, to fill the emptiness, comfort the screaming and hand you the very thing we need.
Life Everlasting, wrapped in God's Love.
Jesus, the Chosen One of God, God in Human form, rose from the dead, to give us life, love and comfort. He became the answer to the needs of our heart and soul and mind, to grant us the unspoken wish to be clean and fresh as we were as children.
Sometimes I feel hopeless, helpless and terrible.
Then I remember.
He Lives!
