“Gently, so as not to scare it more that it was, I opened the window for it.”
What the heck is that noise? I wandered into the living room and found my answer. A small bird (technically called "brown" by me) was slamming against the window, over and over again. Somehow, it was in the house and it wanted out — NOW! "Bird," I thought to myself "you are not real bright, are you?" It didn't seem to understand that the window was there.
While this is a good thing to note about the way my wife can get a window clean (see, hon, I do notice this stuff!) its more important to look at the bird a moment. It felt trapped and confused and frightened. It knew it should be able to get through that "open" space, but something was stopping it, something was preventing it from going where it wanted to. So, to fix this problem, someone would have to act for the bird, in a way that it couldn't.
Gently, so as not to scare it more that it was, I opened the window for it. In a perfect world, the bird (brown) would have flown out the window and to its freedom. But the bird chose a new spot to ram against the window, panicky wings beating against the glass. "Okay," I thought to myself, "New plan". I moved to the other side and shooed the bird to the right window and out it went.
The bird had no way to open that window, there was no chance of it getting out without help.
We have no way of getting "out", either. We need help. But it wasn't a window that was opened for us, it was a tomb. The rock that sealed it was rolled aside, and we were set free. How often do we flail against life, our wings beating uselessly against the barrier we don't understand. Jesus opened the window for us. We can mount up on eagle's wings, and soar with freedom.
Easter Sunday is Resurrection Sunday. The day that God opened the window on Death. No more do we have to be afraid of death's sting! No more do we have to panic! Jesus shows the way. He leads us onto the right path, and rejoices as we fly!
Praise God for His love for us all. I am FREE!
