How many times have you said this? How many times have you heard it from others?
We live in a shouting society. We shout at other drivers when the windows are rolled up. They can't hear us yet we still yell at them. We yell at our dogs. Do we need to use a loud command voice to help our dogs hear when they misbehave? No, dogs hear better than we do. We yell at our children, spouses, co-workers, even at ourselves.
Do we really need to raise our voice to be heard? Rarely. Shouting is a form of aggression. Aggression may hide feelings of guilt, fear, pain or an overwhelming need to control others, which has its own complex labrynth of motivation. Sometimes people shout at others when they are emotionally hurt. They put a cannon in someone's face and fire away. It doesn't make sense, but that's what some people do. It is easier to yell than admit we are hurt. Consequently, we perpetuate the cycle of pain by hurting those we love. Children grow up learning how to shout at others. They have good role models. Between their parents and the cartoons they watch, they are taught that yelling is an effective method of getting what you want. Here's a tidbit of trivia for you. If you shouted for 8 years, 7 months, 6 days, you would produce enough sound energy to heat a cup of coffee. It doesn't hardly seem worth the effort does it? Unfortunately, that much shouting can also ruin many lives. If you are a shouter, maybe it is time to realize how much harm you are doing and repent. We all fall into that category at one time or another. Pray with me. "Lord, I am sorry for shouting at my children. I am sorry for shouting at my spouse. I am sorry for shouting at those around me. Lord, please forgive me and help me control my tongue. Please help me to repair the damage that I have done." Remember, 'repent' means to turn away and go another direction. When a person repents, others can see the change. Those who repent will stop yelling at others. Is there ever a reason to shout? Yes. Psalms 89:15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim You. (The Hebrew word for 'acclaim' is "t roo gah", which means "clamor, loud noise and rejoicing.") Psalms 27:6 ...at His tabernacle I will sacrifice with shouts of joy. I will sing and make noise to the Lord. Psalms 40:16 ...may all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You. (The Hebrew word for 'rejoice' is 'siys', which means "be glad greatly, make mirth.") Revelation 19:1 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting 'Halleluiah!' (Matt.6:10 Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven) John 12:13 They took palm branches and went out to meet Him shouting "Hosanna! Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord." If you are going to shout, make sure it is for the right reason. All contents Copyright (c) Rod Use without permission is prohibited |
