Most people do not think about death very often. To some, it is an unknown that cannot be comprehended. To others, it is an incomprehensible unknown. Can you imagine the legacy you will leave behind?

There is more to 'dignity in dying' than the lack of drooling. What legacy will you leave to others? Did you prepare your children to carry on? Will they remember you as one who kept trying even when times were hard or will they think you were "messed up"? Wrong focus. What legacy will you have left for God? Will they remember the times you trusted God for the answers? I have thought about death.

Obviously, I have not died (yet) so I do not know what the experience will be like. I have chosen not to place much stock in stories of those who have had "near death" experiences. Science will never understand eternity. Consequently, the experience of death is an unknown that cannot be comprehended. That is reality to me.

No matter what life and death will have dealt, it will have been worth it all when I see His face and hear Him say "Well done, thou good and faithful servant..." The pain, hardship and suffering will be over. Even the joy that we had in this life will fade compared to the joy of being in His presence. I do not do His work to please God. I do His work because I love Him. Sometimes I think I do OK. Sometimes I mess up. I never forget that my righteousness is a filthy rags in His sight. It is Christ that lives in me that is my hope of glory. When this life is over, all that is left will be what we have done here.

As you think about what heaven will be, think about the life you will leave behind. Will he find you "a workman that needeth not to be ashamed"?
