Christians take pride in their intolerance of sin. Often, this ineffectively implemented intolerance is aimed at the sinner. This behavior has a devastating impact on our ministry and reputation.
61,000 U.S. public schools will soon receive their copy of a music video starring SpongeBob SquarePants, in a remake of the 1979 hit song "We Are Family." Supporting characters include Winnie the Pooh, Barney, Bob the Builder and the Rugrats.
Two Christian groups have already taken a public stance against the video and characters, stating they promote the gay agenda. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, and Ed Vitagliano, for the American Family Association both agree the underlying message of the video celebrates the homosexual lifestyle.
Attacking cartoon charaters is not new. In 1999, the Reverand Jerry Falwell warned parents that Tinky Winky, a Teletubbie cartoon character, was a "gay role model." "He is purple -- the gay-pride color;" observes the alert, "and his antenna is shaped like a triangle -- the gay pride symbol." Falwell's embarrassing Parent's Alert has since been removed from the school's website, but not before his statements were reported by the press.
